Ko govorimo o okrajšavah v angleškem jeziku, pomislimo na sklope, kjer besede ali fraze okrajšamo z opuščanjem ene ali več črk in nadomestimo te črke z apostrofom, kot na primer: he would → he’d, she is → she’s, should have → should’ve itd. V pogovorni angleščini (sploh v ameriški angleščini) se pogosto dogaja, da se taki sklopi še bolj popačijo. V pisavi in uradnem govoru so le-ti izredno neprimerni, zato se jim moramo izogibati! Da bomo pravilno uporabljali okrajšave, nam bo pomagal spodnji prispevek.
