Pri uporabi pogovorne angleščine ne gre za ničesar drugega kot znati uporabiti ustrezno frazo glede na dano situacijo. V spodnjem prispevku so nekatere izmed najbolj ustaljenih in pogosto rabljenih.

Pomen:

S to frazo sprašujete nekoga, če je kaj takšnega, da lahko storite za njih oziroma jim pomagate.

Primeri:

Do you want me to pick up the kids?
Do you want me to fix your flat tire?

  • You could have + (pretekli deležnik)

Pomen:

S to frazo izražate nekaj, kar je bilo, naj bi bilo ali bi bilo. Ko jo uporabite, trdite, da je sogovorec imel druge možnosti, ki bi jih lahko izbral.

Primeri:

You could have completed it sooner.
You could have done better on your exam.
You could have blown your chance.
You could have given more time to get ready.

  • If I were you, I would + (glagol)

Pomen:

S to frazo dajete primer, kaj bi VI naredili v dani situaciji. Lahko gre za pretekli čas ali zgolj za hipotetično sedanjost oziroma prihodnost.

  • Are you into + (samostalnik)

Pomen:

S to frazo sprašujete po interesu, ki bi ga sogovorec morda imel, oziroma nečem, kar rad počne.

Primeri:

Are you into playing games?
Are you into wine tasting?
Are you into jogging?

  • That’s why + (osebek + glagol)

Pomen:

S to frazo nekaj pojasnjujemo, v pomenu ‘zaradi tega’ ali‘zatorej, torej’.

Primeri:

That’s why you fail to understand.

  • It’s gonna be + (pridevnik)

Pomen:

S to frazo obveščate nekoga, kakšna bo neka stvar. To se lahko nanaša na dejanja ali stanja (zaznavati, videti, čutiti…)

Primeri:

It’s gonna be depressing.

  • It looks like + (samostalnik)

Pomen:

S to frazo opisujete, kako je nekaj podobno nečemu drugemu oziroma opisujete, kakšen vtis daje neka situacija.

Primeri:

It looks like a jellyfish.

It looks like it’s going to rain.
It looks like they are leaving.

  • It takes + (čas) + to + (glagol)

Pomen:

S to frazo nekomu poveste, kako dolgo bo trajalo preden se izvede neka aktivnost oziroma doseže neko stanje.

Primeri:

It takes forty-five minutes for me to get ready.
It takes me one hour to cook.

  • Here’s to + (samostalnik)

Pomen:

Ta fraza se uporablja v kontekstu praznovanja ali obeležitve osebe, mesta ali druge pomembne stvari. Ponavadi se uporabi, ko se nekomu ali nečemu nazdravlja.

  • It’s no use + (glagol-ing)

Pomen:

S to frazo trdite, da tisto, kar počnete ali kar počne nekdo drug ni priporočljivo, je nepotrebno oziroma neumestno in ne bo prineslo nobenih rezultatov.

Primeri:

It’s no use crying.
It’s no use separating them.
It’s no use talking to her.
It’s no use cleaning up.

  • Rumor has it that + (osebek+ glagol)

Pomen:

Gre za izraz, ki je uporabljen, ko sugeriramo, da smo morda slišali ali brali o nečem, kar se dogaja ta trenutek ali se bo zgodilo v prihodnosti.

Primeri:

Rumor has it that she cheated on him.
Rumor has it that you like to paint.
